Gli Ozric Tentacles negli anni ottanta hanno fatto numerosissimi concerti dal vivo durante i quali vendevano direttamente i loro nastri autoprodotti, prevalentemente in ambito rock progressivo sconfinando nello space rock e nella musica psichedelica.
Il loro primo disco ufficiale e' stato Pungent Effulgent nel 1989, ma sono stati pubblicati negli ultimi anni, riversati su vinile i lavori precedentemente su nastro, questi:

Li ho presi (eccetto il live) e ascoltati tutti, qui parlo degli ultimi due, oggetto della mia "Ozric Tentacles full immersion" di oggi.
- "Sliding Gliding Worlds" del 1988 - 62 minuti, 15 brani
Ottima la produzione su vinile, un album con un'atmosfera esotica ed etnica, atmosfere orientali ed asiatiche che lo rendono davvero interessante. Troviamo il digitale e analogico insieme, drum machines e tablas... C'è la versione originale di "White Rhino Tea" (poi in Strangeitude) con un suono molto anni '80 e compare anche "Kick Muck" (poi in "Pungent Effulgent") ma con finale diverso. C'è "The Dusty Pouch" un'interessante reggae con un bel flauto nel finale.

- The Bits Between the Bits del 1989 - tutti pezzi di grande spessore, alcuni in arte utilizzati per le versioni su album ufficiale.
"Eye of Adia", ha qualcosa di "Pungent Effulgent" ed è stato utilizzato infatti come parte di uno dei brani.
"Sparkling Oasis" brano reggae, molto bello. "Tidal Otherness", breve brano ambient, poi ripreso in "Erpsongs" ma più lungo e con più elettronica. "Symetricum" è quello che mi e' piaciuto di piu'. "Floating Seeds" è un meraviglioso brano ambient con un po' di musica etnica. "Wreltch", che compare anche in una ristampa di "Pungent Effulgent" credo.
Complessivamente queste "cassette" sono tutte bellissime, incluse queste ultime due rimasterizzazioni, non stupisce che la band abbia attirato le attenzioni delle case discografiche per i futuri lavori "ufficiali". Il resto e' storia.

In the 80s, Ozric Tentacles played numerous live concerts during which they directly sold their self-produced tapes, mainly in the progressive rock field, bordering on space rock and psychedelic music.
Their first official album was Pungent Effulgent in 1989, but in recent years they have published, transferred to vinyl, the works previously on tape:

I took them all (except the live) and listened to them all, here I am talking about the last two, the subject of my “Ozric Tentacles full immersion” today.

Excellent production on vinyl, an album with an exotic and ethnic atmosphere, oriental and Asian atmospheres that make it really interesting. We find digital and analog together, drum machines and tablas... There is the original version of “White Rhino Tea” (later in Strangeitude) with a very 80s sound and also “Kick Muck” appears (later in “Pungent Effulgent”) but with a different ending. There is “The Dusty Pouch” an interesting reggae with a nice flute in the ending.

All pieces of great depth, some partly used for the versions on the official album.
“Eye of Adia”, has something of “Pungent Effulgent” and was in fact used as part of one of the tracks.
“Sparkling Oasis” reggae track, very nice. “Tidal Otherness”, short ambient track, later reprised in “Erpsongs” but longer and with more electronics. “Symetricum” is the one I liked the most. “Floating Seeds” is a wonderful ambient track with a bit of ethnic music. “Wreltch”, which also appears on a reissue of “Pungent Effulgent” I believe.
Overall these “tapes” are all beautiful, including these last two remasters, it’s no wonder the band has attracted the attention of record companies for future “official” works. The rest is history.
